Overview
The Battle of Mikatagahara was the battle between the armies of Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu at Mikatahara in 1573. It ended in Ieyasu's defeat.
On December 22, Takeda's troops crossed the Tenryu River at Kanzo, proceeded down the Akiha Kaido Road from Aritama to Oiwake, passing the terrace of Mikatahara, and then finally rested at the hill in Hoda (Hosoe, Kita-ku). Oda Nobunaga sent his men to help Ieyasu. At past 4 p.m., the Tokugawa army attacked the Takeda. Ieyasu had 10,000 troops, whereas Shingen had 20,000 troops. Ieyasu's army took flight.
Hamamatsu Shusse Daiko (the Drum of Success)
It is said that the Takeda army drew away as they were alarmed by the sounds of drums played by Ieyasu's men during the battle. With the inspiration from this legend, the Hamamatsu Shusse Taiko was built. The Hamamatsu Festival Hall displays the drum.
