Establishment
Hamamatsu Festival has history of 440 years. It is held annually on May 3rd to 5th with more than one million visitors. The festival is known as one of the biggest in Japan. The pavilion was opened in 1985 to provide all kinds of information about the festival. Actual objects used in and visual images of the festival are on display allowing visitors to feel the heat and excitement of the event.
 
Contents
It has 5 divisions:
1.    Hi-Vision Room--- 8-minute-video-show of the digest of the festival is played.
 
2.    Hamamtsu Shussse Taiko--- The drums of Hamamatsu-Shusse-Taiko, a performing art, are displayed.
 
3.    Kite Thread Manufacture Room--- The process of manufacturing kite threads, which play a big role in kite battles, is shown. The threads are only sold in here.
 
4.    Kites Exhibit Room--- Visitors would feel as though they are at the kite battle field with the sounds and the visual effects of the festival.
 
5.    Goten-Yatai Exhibition Room--- It shows the images and the sounds of people carrying around Goten-Yatai (palace-like-float). The room also displays the Goten-Yatai built for 80th anniversary of the city.
 
Remarks
It holds a kite making class on the second and the fourth Sundays (reservation required). You can take a picture wearing a happi, a traditional coat wore in Japanese festivals. Souvenirs such as goods of the festivals and local products of Hamamatsu are sold also.
