Naval gunfire and 27 times of air attacks in WWII burned Hamamatsu to the ground. The reconstruction project of the city, which began shortly after the war, was completed in 1983. In 1988, as a part of the celebration of that, Hamamatsu Reconstruction Memorial Museum (Hamamatsu Fukkō Kinenkan) was established.
 
Contents
The museum preserves and displays records of the reconstruction and pictures of people back then. It was the fundamental step of Hamamatsu's development. The museum aims to hand down memories of unforgettable experience of air-attacks and the transition of life, culture, and the cityscape for future generation. The place is available for citizens to think about the development and the future of Hamamatsu through the records of the project, which was carried by all citizens together.
 
Remarks
Its exhibition illuminates how the city was during the war through pictures, models, living wares, and shrapnel. The displays give insights into the war. A video shows about the process of the reconstruction is available also.
