Okaba-cho Murahigashi Site

Address Okaba-cho, Higashi-ku, Hamamatsu-shi
Overview
Wooden artifacts such as mokkan, wooden strips used for writing, were recovered from river ruins in this site. Records of loans of seed rice, supplies of seed rice to a post station from a district head, and management of harvested crops in the early 8th century was written in these strips.

As many artifacts commonly used in public offices such as looms, footgear, and tools for festivals were excavated, it is thought that there was most certainly a gunke (families ruled districts and handled taxations) called the Nagata. Moreover, the possibility of the existence of nearby offices related to post stations is taken into consideration.
