Establishment
As the head of Ōya Village, Uchiyama devoted considerable efforts to the village’s development. He also dedicated to the study of Kokugaku (Japanese philosophy) and education of his followers. Uchiyama Matatsu Memorial Museum (Uchiyama Matatsu Shiryōkan) was established to introduce his achievements in November 1996 at his birth place,Ōya.
 
Contents
He was born in 1740 in Ōya, Tenryu-ku. He replaced his father as head of the village when he was 21. He studied Kokugaku under Kamono Mabuchi even though he was very busy with his work. In addition, he learned from Watanabe Mōan and Tanaka Michihiro, a follower of Motoori Norinaga. He wrote many books. The museum displays his writings, drawings, and materials relating to his pupils.
