Higashibara Site

Address Shinbara, Hamakita-ku, Hamamatsu-shi
Time Late Yayoi period
Overview
It is a large settlement site belonging to the late Yayoi period, characterized by closely built pit houses with shape of round-cornered square. Excavations at this site have been conducted since 2004. Many of Yayoi pottery was unearthed from holes dug around the houses. The similarities showed between pots and jars found here and those in regions east of the Tenryu River indicate social and material exchanges between villages had already begun at the time.
